LANGUAGE FOR YOUR PLANS

Turn your written commitments into daily practice.

Your plans already name the institution you want to become. Below is suggested language you can adapt to connect those commitments to the training that keeps them.

A plan is a promise a community makes to itself. The language below is offered as a starting point, written to be adapted to your institution's voice, mission, and context. We encourage you to revise it so it reflects who you are and who you serve.

These samples are illustrative. Please review any language with the appropriate leaders, human resources professionals, and counsel before adopting it.

ON PREPARING COMMITTEE MEMBERS

The institution will ensure that everyone who serves on a hiring or screening committee completes equity centered training on fair and effective hiring practices before participating in a selection process. This training addresses applicable federal law, state law, and the provisions of Title 5, along with the recognition and interruption of bias in hiring.

ON DOCUMENTATION AND RECOGNITION

Completion of fair hiring training will be documented through a digital badge and certificate recognized by Human Resources as evidence of a person's readiness to serve on a screening or hiring committee.

ON CULTURE COMPETENCE

The institution is committed to building the cultural competence, cultural fluency, and cultural humility of its hiring committees, so that our selection practices recognize the cultural assets each candidate brings and reflect the communities we serve.

ON SUSTAINING THE PRACTICE

The institution will sustain a culture of fair and effective hiring through ongoing, multi year professional development, ensuring that new committee members are prepared and that our practices remain current with evolving law and promising practice.
