Gabriel Martinez

Counsultant

Gabriel Martinez is a dedicated Community College educator who prepares, advocates for and counsels Bay Area underrepresented populations in higher education. He has a passion for centering and empowering student voices and lived experiences and he thrives in cross-functional collaborations that involve students, administrators, faculty and staff. Through local campuses, educational non-profits and state level organizations he has served for over 20 years in a variety of roles such as Counselor, Academic Senate leadership, Faculty Department Chair, Intern Supervisor, Program Coordinator and Educational Consultant.  

 

Gabriel currently serves the community at Berkeley City College where he has led efforts supporting student completion and retention, empowering undocumented students, and developing, implementing and improving student services technologies and communication tools for the past 11 years. Prior to his current role he worked at Merritt College, City College of San Francisco and the SF College Access Center (Cal-SOAP) where he served Spanish bilingual populations, developed and coordinated a workforce development cohort program and helped increase college-going rates in local public high schools. He holds a Masters Degree in Counseling from San Francisco State University and previously attended the Peralta Colleges and Diablo Valley College before transferring to UC Santa Cruz to complete his undergraduate studies.
